Dorothy “Roselle” Kauffman, 86, of West Liberty, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, in St. Rita Medical Center, Lima.
She was born May 3, 1931, a daughter of the late J. Oliver and Allie Mae Yoder Yoder. She was a lifetime member of the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, West Liberty, graduated in 1949 from of West Liberty High School and earned a bachelor of music degree in piano performance from Wittenberg College in 1954.
Roselle was a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota Music Sorority and Music Teachers National Association. Her teaching experience included the Wittenberg Preparatory piano department, piano instructor at Goshen College, West Liberty Elementary vocal and 37 years of private piano and organ lessons. She enjoyed sewing, cro- cheting, photography, accompanying, choir directing and being organist for the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty for many years.
On June 8, 1958, she married Clair S. Kauffman at Oak Grove Mennonite Church and he preceded her in death in 2008. She also was preceded in death by three half-sisters, Saba Kanagy, Edna Pearl Yoder and Lydia Belle Krabill; two half-brothers, Clarence and Roy Yoder; and one niece, Mary Lou Hooley.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Nedra Fay (Richard) Fredrick; two stepgrandchildren, Kristie (Kip) Humbert and Jon (Denise) Fredrick; five great-stepgrandchildren, Storm, Colt, Slayde, Rayce and Braelyn Humbert, all of Fayette; and many nieces and nephews.
Pastor Dick Barrett officiates a graveside service at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in Oak Grove Mennonite Cemetery, followed by visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, West Liberty, preceding the 11 a.m. memorial service.
