Dorothy E. Bailey Hoyt, 81, of Shavertown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, with her daughter by her side.
She was born in Lakeview, a daughter of the late Guy and Alice Godwin Bailey. She was a graduate and salutatorian of Stokes High School, class of 1957 in Lakeview. After high school, she was employed by Duff Inc. in Ohio.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, going to casinos, playing bingo and cards of any kind, especially poker. She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Her greatest love was her family. She was the best Mom ever.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles F. (Pugsy) Hoyt, in 2016. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Eva Mae Haybron, Darlene Frank, Mary (Sis) Johnston and her brothers, Marion, Carl, Billy Joe and Frank Bailey.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Stacey Hoyt, Shavertown, and sons, Charles Hoyt II and his wife, Jill, Shavertown, Blaise Hoyt, Tallahassee, Fla. and Wade Hoyt and his spouse, John, Brandon, Fla. Grandsons, Joseph Wrhel II, Matthew Wrhel, Alexander Hoyt and Brandon Hoyt; great granddaughter, Kelsey Wrhel; brothers, Curtis Bailey, Lakeview, and Edward Bailey, Bellefontaine, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Rev. Carole E. Coleman will officiate. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Those who are attending the visitation and service are required to wear a mask and abide by the CDC and state social distancing requirements.
