Dolores Hover Madden, 84, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, from complications relating to dementia.
She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1951. Her first job was at JC Penney at 18 years old. She was co-owner with her husband Jim, of two grocery stores — Madden IGA in Huntsville from 1965 to 1967 and Third and Linden Market in east Dayton from 1977 to 1995. She retired from JC Penney.
Dolores is preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2013. They had been married 62 years when he died from complications of a condo fire.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Ruth Mary Smith of Columbus; four children, Terri (Rick) Pabst, James Madden, Laura (Mike) Nolan and Julie (Donny) Ashley; eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Dan, Mike, Dylan, Erin, Jake, Mikaela and Olivia; two great-grandchildren, Nikolai and Dylan Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Dayton.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at Newcomer South Chapel, Kettering Blvd., Kettering, where the service is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. Burial follows at Huntsville Cemetery.
