Zachariah Small, 29, of 425 Kent Drive, Apt. 1, faces a charge of having a dog at large after his dog burst through a window screen on Sunday.
Once out, the dog reportedly bit Zachery T. Ford, of 425 Kent Drive, Apt. 9, while he was emptying household trash into a complex trash bin around 12:55 p.m.
Ford told officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department that he reach down to befriend the dog and it bit his left hand, puncturing the skin.
An officer noted the dog was with a woman neighbor who reported the dog belonged to Small. The officer went to Small’s apartment and began knocking on the door to contact Small.
The dog approached the officer and became aggressive, trying to bite the officer without provocation. The officer thwarted the dog’s repeated efforts and retrieved a catch pole.
However, he was unable to snatch the dog. A resident tossed a dog treat into the cruiser’s rear seat and the dog followed, allowing the officer to close the door.
He took the dog to Logan County Jail to house it in the kennel. The catch pole was used to control the dog and it stopped its aggressive behavior walking along side the officer to a kennel.
