Michael S. Alexander, 26, of Lima, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia after a 2:45 a.m. Monday crash at Water Avenue and Plumvalley Street.
He was westbound on Water and failed to stop at the intersection. His car slid out of control on the snow, slush and icy road surface. It spun into the yard of 440 Plumvalley St. Damage was light to the car, but it was stuck in the yard.
He remained in the car and continued to drive out even as officers approached the vehicle.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department detected an odor of alcohol and strange behavior of the motorist. He was not even sure where he was, saying he thought he was in Findlay and heading to Detroit.
A small amount of marijuana was found in the car and a pipe was located in a pocket of his coat.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired and a breathalyzer sample came back at 0.24.
