Kerry G. Schoenleben, 46, of 6609 County Road 47, West Liberty, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a crash Thursday on State Route 720.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating an eastbound car about 7:50 p.m. just east of County Road 17 when he drove off the right side of the road on a curve, drove through a yard and struck a utility pole.
While speaking with the driver on the scene, he advised he was not injured, and that he had swerved to miss a deer in the road. Deputies observed that Schoenleben showed signs of intoxication.
The driver said he had not consumed alcohol and agreed to submit to field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest for OVI, and at the Logan County Jail, he refused to submit to a breath test. He also was cited for failure to control.
Damage was heavy to his vehicle, which was towed from the crash scene. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, deputies said.
