RICE |
Terry R. Rice, 51, of 1000 Garfield Ave., Lot 59, Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash about 5:40 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a southbound car on County Road 130 near County Road 91 when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox at 3225 C.R. 130 before coming to rest in a field.
When deputies arrived, they observed the vehicle in a field and spoke with the driver, identified as Rice. Dispatchers advised that he had a suspended license. Damage was light to the vehicle.
He showed signs of intoxication, and when he exited the vehicle, deputies said he used the door jam to pull himself out of the vehicle and leaned against the car while speaking with deputies.
Deputies also recovered a one-liter Mason jar of moonshine from the vehicle.
The defendant refused to submit to field sobriety tests, and he was transported to the Logan County Jail, where deputies said he was uncooperative, stating, “wake me up when you’re all finished.”
He was offered the opportunity to make a telephone call from the jail’s phone for a sober driver to pick up him, but because he refused and wanted to use his own cell phone, he was lodged in the jail.
Rice also was cited for failure to control and driving under suspension.
