Artwork created by two Logan County Braves athletes, Morgan Huffer and Taylor Young, has been selected for the Special Olympics Ohio’s Athlete Art Auction, with bidding available at https://soohart.givesmart.com beginning at 8 a.m. today, Dec. 9, and continuing through 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.
Artist Taylor Young participates in bowling, basketball and softball. He chose to represent the Law Enforcement Torch Run in his artwork. Taylor had the honor of running and carrying the torch in 2019.
In Morgan Huffer’s piece, she chose to represent her favorite sport, equestrian. In her first year of competing, she finished in first and third place at the state competitions.
Special Olympics Ohio athletes from all over the state have worked hard over the last month to get their artwork showcased in this auction. Nearly 500 canvases were distributed throughout Ohio and 31 of them have made it to this state auction.
The athletes created unique, personal artwork expressing “what Special Olympics Ohio means to them.”
The goal of this auction is to not only raise funds for Special Olympics Ohio, its athletes, and its programming, but also to raise awareness and showcase the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.
In addition to the online auction, these pieces also are on private display at Sarah Gormley Gallery in the Short North.
Similarly, the Logan County Braves Special Olympics hosted its first Art Auction with the same theme of “what Special Olympics means to me.” The auction concluded Tuesday.
The funds raised from the local fundraiser will go toward equipment, uniforms, registration fees, transportation, and any fees associated with the athletes to support their participation in Special Olympics locally and statewide.
