Virgil L. Strickler, of Lakeview, who has been the general manager of the Ohio State Fair since 2004, recently was inducted into the Ohio Agricultural Council Hall of Fame.
He served as livestock and agriculture director of the fair from 1993. Strickler was instrumental in implementing the nationally recognized Youth Reserve Program in 1995. In 1998, he was named assistant general manager.
Strickler is responsible for the management of the fair and its more than 185 events and leading and directing the agency’s 60 full-time employees among other duties.
He was raised on a farm in Fairfield County and joins 224 other recipients who have earned the award since the hall began in 1966.
The longest serving general manager in the history of the Ohio State Fair, he was among four inductees this year.
