Cost of trash bags for residents in the village of West Liberty is scheduled to increase by $2.50 per roll.
Village council members approved Monday in a regular meeting first reading of an ordinance to raise the cost of large and small trash bags by 25 cents per bag, effective March 1.
Large bags will cost $1.25, and small bags will be 75 cents a piece, according to the ordinance which passed on first reading only.
An increase in dumping fees at the landfill are among the reasons cited by council for the increase. This is the first increase in the cost of the orange bags since 2006, council relates.
The ordinance will get two more readings before council, village officials said.
