Tony Core is leaving his seat as a Logan County commissioner to join a private law firm.
He presented copies of his resignation letter to Logan County Republican Party Chairman Steven L. Fansler and the Bellefontaine Examiner on Thursday.
His resignation is effective Oct. 6.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this community,” he wrote. “This is a difficult choice, but I have been offered a wonderful opportunity that I cannot pass up.”
He declined to name the firm he is joining, but added the offer came recently.
Core has served nine years on the commission and was in the first year of his third term.
Fansler said the party’s central committee will meet to select a replacement. He believes an appointment has to come within five to 45 days of the effective date of the resignation. He anticipates a selection sooner than later in the time period.
The party will announce the appointment date and where to submit applications and resumes.
With more than half of the term left, an election to fill the unexpired term will be on the 2018 general election ballot.
