Logan County Commissioners on Thursday pledged $45,000 in support to the Holland Theatre restoration during a meeting with board representative Dava Royer and Managing Director Chris Westhoff.
“We are still committed to it,” Commissioner Dustin Wickersham said. “We would like to do it in concert with the city, because we believe it is a good economic development tool that benefits downtown Bellefontaine. I think that the vision that was created to save the Holland many years ago is still very much a reality.”
The county’s $45,000 in support, which will be made in annual payments through June 2019, will be part of a local match the Holland must provide to take advantage of $430,000 in grant funding through the Wisconsin-based Jeffris Family Foundation. The Logan County Landmark Preservation board, which owns the Holland, has also pitched a request to the city but is awaiting a final decision, Royer said.
“If we picked up yours and the city’s (commitments) we wouldn’t have far to go,” she said after explaining that the fundraising effort has already netted $363,00 in payments and nearly $250,000 in additional commitments for a total of more than $610,000. The county’s announcement takes the total to $655,000 of the $860,000 needed for the local match.
