SHERIFF RANDY DODDS |
Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds will be able to replace three marked cruisers this year as the Logan County Commissioners have authorized $120,000 for the patrol vehicles.
“We need to try to replace three a year,” Sheriff Dodds said. “We’re getting the Ford Explorer interceptor package for about $27,000 through the state bid, but we still have to equip the vehicles which pushes it closer to $40,000 per cruiser.
“We appreciate what the commissioners have done,” he added, noting it will allow the department to hit its cruiser replacement goals for 2018.
Modern cruisers require electronics such as on board laptops for reports and records checks; cameras for inside and out; audio recording systems; ticket scanners; automated license plate readers and radios. These add to the costs of putting cruisers on the road, Sheriff Dodds noted.
