Clarabel Plank, 97, of West Liberty, passed away at 10:38 a.m. Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Green Hills Inn.
She was born in Harrison Township, Champaign County, on Jan. 29, 1921, to the late Marion Herman and Imo Christine Hoffman Hostetler. On Sept. 27, 1940, she married J. Harley Plank and he preceded her in death May 14, 1995.
Clarabel was also preceded in death by her sister, Lois Pyle; brothers, Roger Hostetler, Robert Hostetler, Joe Hostetler, Russell Hostetler, Charles Hostetler, Millard Hostetler and Karl Hostetler; and other family members, Dorothy (Detwiler) Hostetler, David Legge, Jacob Detwiler and Madison Holycross.
She is survived by her children, Judith Legge and Raymen (Beth Ann) Plank; grandchildren, John Jr. (Karrie) Detwiler, Jill (Andy) Stickley, Jennifer (Lee) Pettit, Wes (Lisa) Legge, Doug (Nikki) Legge, Terri (Derrick) Fairchild, Jodi (Doug) Lininger, Jeff (Lisa) Plank and Jim Holycross; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Joy Plank, Lee and Donna Plank, and Suzanne Hostetler; special friends, Janet Devine, Jacob Vitt and Paul and Stacie Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
Clarabel was a member of the West Liberty United Church of Christ where she served on the Missionary Aide and was a member of the Crusaders Class. She worked at Hillside Greenhouse and Marie’s Candies, where she retired on her 90th birthday. Clarabel enjoyed spending her winters in Arizona and playing Rummikub, bingo, and Skipbo. She participated in many Emmaus walks and loved baking birthday and Christmas gifts for her family, crocheting and watching sports on television, especially the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State football.
Pastor Kay Young officiates a funeral service at noon Wednesday, June 6, at the West Liberty United Church of Christ, 212 W. Newell St., West Liberty, where visitation is two hours prior to the service. Burial follows in Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty.
