An early morning raid Friday, Oct. 7, quickly apprehended a wanted suspect on felony drug counts.
Tanito Petaway, 44, of 125 W. Brown Ave., was stopped by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department around 6 a.m. when he exited his residence to go to work.
Detectives and officers, including the department’s K-9 unit, had converged on the residence and waited for Petaway to emerge. Once he was in custody, officers executed a narcotics search warrant and recovered 6.7 ounces of crack cocaine; materials for making crack cocaine; packaging materials; a digital scale; and $469. They also seized Petaway’s cellular phone.
The crack cocaine was in numerous tiny bags bundled together in a single bag. The total bundle was about the size of a baseball, officers report.
Petaway was the target of a lengthy investigation which led to the search warrants.
He has been charged first-degree felony counts of possession of cocaine and trafficking in drugs and a second-degree felony count of illegal manufacture of drugs.
Additional charges are pending, officers report.
Officers hope surveillance videos provide identities
Officers are hoping surveillance cameras from a neighboring property will help identify suspects who threw eggs at a car.
Kolton Hall, 512 W. Williams Ave., reported the incident around 1:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10.
Residual from the vandalism had not yet dried, indicating it occurred shortly before Hall discovered the incident.
• Jennifer Cooper of Huntsville reported $100 was taken from a self-checkout kiosk at Kroger, 2129 S. Main St., around 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7. She had selected the cash back option while paying for her groceries but forgot to take the cash from the dispenser and exited the store.
She realized she had forgotten an item and returned to purchase it, using the same kiosk. She then remembered she forgot to pocket the cash.
Store staff are reviewing surveillance footage of the man who took the cash.
Unwanted guest lodged
Dallas C. McKinley, 47, at large, was arrested Friday, Oct. 7, for public intoxication. He was found around 1:35 p.m. in a garage at 312 N. Detroit St., sitting in a chair. Resident Patrick Lambert told officer McKinley was no longer welcome and was told to leave the property.
McKinley was unsteady on his feet and reeked of alcohol.
He was lodged in jail.
Resident cited again for loud music
Shawn M. Scott, 47, of 500 Gunntown Road, Apt. D11, was charged Sunday, Oct. 9, for the second time in recent days for disturbing the peace.
He has repeatedly been warned and charged for playing loud music in his apartment. The latest charge was filed after a 6 a.m. incident.
An officer knocked on his door and Scott answered. He claimed he was deaf and could not communicate well with the officer. The officer pointed out Scott heard and answered knocking on his door.
He was issued summons.
