Choices program arms eighth-graders with practical life advice

Eighth-grade students leaving a conflict and stress management session Thursday during the Choices program at Indian Lake Middle School said they felt “a little lighter” after practicing methods to help with handling difficult emotions and situations.
The pupils from ILMS and Riverside schools had the chance to try a technique called progressive muscle relaxation. During the seven-step process that took about five minutes to complete, students said it was easy to forget about the current stresses in their lives by focusing instead on relaxing each part of their bodies, starting with their feet and ankles and working all the way up to their heads.
“I liked this session the best,” ILMS student Phoebe Brielmaier said. “I was so relaxed that I nearly fell asleep. It would be helpful to do if I was having a stressful day.”
