Don’t be afraid … or you can be, depending on which night you choose to brave the free haunted insane asylum at the Chippewa Outreach Center, 13976 Ironwood Avenue in Lakeview. Because you can either mosey through the non-scary, empty asylum on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m., or take your chances with the truly frightening asylum on Friday, Oct. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The annual event, which saw more than 140 visitors in 2021, boasts a different theme each year. Many people helped make it possible through donations, including The Costume Shop in Russells Point, which provided the costumes and masks, and white sheets from parents and grandparents of the children who attend the center.
“Families will adventure through an insane asylum where the inmates have gotten loose and will come after anyone who enters,” Drew Shick, director of Chippewa and Russells Point Neighborhood Outreach Centers, said. “But although they’ll be there to scare you, don’t worry. The workers won’t grab or touch anyone coming through.”
The outreach centers partner with residents to provide programming to keep children safe as well as strengthen families and encourage a positive community spirit. You can find more information about the program on the Logan County, Ohio, website at co.logan.oh.us.
