Bellefontaine’s boys soccer team was all business to start the Division II sectional tournament Tuesday, dominating Urbana for a convincing 8-0 victory.
“I felt like we had everything clicking tonight,” said BHS head coach Steve Henry. “From start to finish, we were in attack mode. And to get a shutout is always our goal. It’s a trophy that the whole team can share because it takes all of them to achieve that.”
The second-seeded Chiefs improve to 12-4-1. The win sets up a rematch with seventh-seeded Ben Logan (5-7-4) in the sectional semifinal on Saturday at 11 a.m. inside AcuSport Stadium. The Chiefs beat the Raiders 2-0 a week ago.
“Now we have our county rival Ben Logan, who is going to be more than ready to knock us out,” said Henry. “I’m sure our boys will be ready for that because they all know each other and it’s the last home game for the seniors. It should be a fun one.”
Bellefontaine raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first half. Isaiah Henry scored just three minutes into the game off an assist from Jacob Shell. Henry added a second goal at the 29-minute mark with an assist from Dakota Shell for a 2-0 lead.
Dakota Shell scored his own goal minutes later to give the Chiefs a 3-0 advantage. Jacob Shell scored unassisted with 10 minutes left in the first half to make it a 4-0 score.
Preston Henry added a goal off a penalty kick a minute later to give his team a 5-0 cushion at the break.
In the second half, Beau Salyer scored for BHS at the 36-minute mark off an assist from Dakota Shell. That gave the Chiefs a 6-0 lead. Jacob Shell found the back of the net at the 29-minute mark off an assist from Ryan Carman to build a 7-0 lead. Ryan Johnson provided the final goal with seven minutes left in the game.
Urbana ends its season at 4-11-2.
