The visiting Chiefs found themselves in a 13-point hole in the third quarter against the winless Cougars, but a 14-0 run helped bail out Bellefontaine for a 62-54 victory.
“We learned tonight that you can’t come into a game underestimating anybody,” said Bellefontaine sophomore point guard Jack Clement, who scored a game-high 20 points. “We did not take them as serious as we should have. We turned up our defense in the second half and that made the difference.”
Bellefontaine improves to 4-1 overall and stays unbeaten in Central Buckeye Conference play at 3-0.
The Cougars are now 0-6, 0-3.
“We found out what happens when you take an opponent lightly,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Calton. “We thought it was going to be easy and you can never think that way. We can’t afford to spot teams 10 points.”
