Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report that approximately 15 headstones were damaged at Van Horn Cemetery in Stokes Township following an alcohol-related crash Wednesday evening.
Deputies report James Hopper, 49, of Lakeview, was operating a northbound vehicle on State Route 235 at Van Horn’s Curve near Lakeview when he drove off the left side of the road and traveled through the cemetery and struck the headstones.
Mr. Hopper was not injured during the crash, but was transported by Indian Lake squad to Mary Rutan Hospital related to an asthma issue.
Deputies noted that he displayed signs of intoxication, but he refused to take a test. He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for failure to control.
His vehicle had heavy damage and was towed from the scene.
A cemetery representative was contacted about the damage.
