Carol A. Oakley Poppe, 73, of Jackson Center, passed away at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Shelby County on Sept. 7, 1944, the daughter of the late LeRoy O. and Lucille E. Mann Oakley. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Dale W. Oakley.
On Aug. 3, 1963, she married James L. Poppe at Maplewood United Methodist Church and he survives.
She is also survived by three children, Jeffrey Poppe of Urbana, Kay (Jack) Frieders of Quincy and Jennifer Peterson of West Liberty; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren, a brother, Jack (Clara Mae) Oakley of Botkins, and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center. Following her retirement after 30 years working for EMI Corp., she and her husband Jim, enjoyed watching their grandchildren perform at piano, school choirs, show choirs and concert band. They mostly enjoyed watching their grandchildren play sports. Carol also enjoyed “running away with her girlfriends” for the day as well as flower gardening.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Grace Lutheran Church, 607 S Main St., Jackson Center, where the Rev. Dr. Cathi Braasch officiates a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, following an hour of visitation. Burial is in Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco.
