Peace Corps provides ‘bookends’ for Hale’s career

Alan Hale has filled a lot of different roles over his 50-plus year career, but it started and is coming to a close in the same vein.
As a young man with a biology degree fresh out of college, he first heard about a new program being introduced by President John F. Kennedy.
The Peace Corps.
“When I saw Kennedy’s inaugural address and he announced the creation of the Peace Corps, I said right away ‘I want to do that,’” Hale, 78, said of his introduction to the program.
