Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to the area of U.S. Route 33 near the Logan and Union county line on a report of an eastbound vehicle that blew a tire and then the tire struck a westbound vehicle.
Antoine D. Lyles, 41, of Lima, reportedly was operating an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche when the driver’s side rear tire flew off and struck a westbound 2015 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Richard A. Chaney, 49, of Rockford.
Damage was heavy front end of the Chaney vehicle and light to the Lyles vehicle. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The drivers were wearing their seat belts.
• Deputies also are investigating a hit-skip crash that occurred Sunday evening along State Route 638 near State Route 274.
Allexxie N. West, 17, of Lewistown, reportedly was operating a northbound 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor about 5:30 p.m. when a second northbound vehicle attempted to pass her and sideswiped the driver’s side of her vehicle. The teen then went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.
The second vehicle fled the scene.
Allexxie and her passenger were checked at the scene of the crash by Huntsville EMS personnel, and they did not report any injuries. The occupants were wearing their seat belts. Damage was heavy to Allexxie’s vehicle, which was towed from the scene.
• Robert E. Sims, 56, of Quincy, was cited for improper passing relating to a non-injury crash Monday afternoon on U.S. Route 33 near County Road 5 in Jefferson Township.
Deputies report he was operating an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer in the right lane about 4 p.m. when he attempted to pass an eastbound 2019 Honda Accord operated by Traiye J. Smith, 32, of Bellefontaine that was driving in the left lane. The Sims vehicle sideswiped the Smith vehicle.
Damage was light to both vehicles and the drivers were wearing their seat belts.
