Law enforcement is looking into reports of theft among some suspects posing as volunteers in the recovery efforts at Indian Lake.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, to the 300 block of north Elm Street on a report of suspected theft of items from the tornado-impacted Indian Lake communities. Upon arrival, officers met with the caller who reported suspicious activity involving individuals staying at the residence.
According to the caller, three individuals associated with the residence had claimed to have been “helping” in recovery efforts at Indian Lake.
Additionally, the caller claimed to have observed a medical bag that they suspected had also been stolen. Alongside the medical bag were several rolls of duct tape and bundles of work gloves, all found in a 5-gallon bucket placed on the front porch of the residence.
Police took photos of the suspected theft items as part of the effort to verify they were stolen. The caller also filled out a written statement.
Police are still investigating.
