Larry J. Lyle III, 26, of Lima, was charged with burglary and possession of criminal tools following a traffic stop about 6 p.m. Wednesday on County Road 18 at County Road 43.
Deputies initiated the stop after observing a suspicious vehicle leave the Oak Crest Campground, 4226 County Road 187, Bellefontaine. Mr. Lyle was identified as the driver of the vehicle.
As deputies were conducting the traffic stop, they were approached by Kevin Lanham, 55, of Madison, Ind. Mr. Lanham explained that he had arrived at the Oak Crest Campground and observed a suspicious vehicle at his campsite. He stated he saw Mr. Lyle hurry from his camper and then flee the campground.
Mr. Lanham reported that a TV had been pulled away from the wall and that other items had been moved within the camper. Deputies noted damage to the lock on the camper door.
Mr. Lyle told deputies that he had been at his grandmother’s campsite. Campground owners reported no one by Lyle’s grandmother’s name is listed as a camper at Oak Crest Campground.
The defendant was lodged in the Logan County Jail, and also was issued traffic citations for speed and three separate driving under suspension violations.
A passenger and owner of the vehicle was identified as Alyssa M Taflinger, 25, of Lima. She was cited for wrongful entrustment.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department assisted deputies with the traffic stop.
