Trevor L. Drummond, 24, of Kenton, was charged with burglary Wednesday after deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a burglary in progress about 10 p.m. in the 14000 block of Woll Drive, Chippewa, Lakeview.
Deputies report a neighbor called in the burglary, and also provided a suspect description, stating that the suspect was chased from the property.
At 11:13 p.m., another caller informed deputies that the suspect was on top of a garage roof in the 13000 block of Woll Drive.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they located Drummond on the roof of the garage and said he was “screaming to the neighbors that he wanted a lighter for his cigarettes.”
Deputies asked the defendant to calm down and to sit down on the roof so that he would not fall. However, Drummond said he was not going to listen until he received a lighter. He then reportedly started pacing along the edge of a roof, apparently trying to get to where he could jump to the ground to flee the area.
A perimeter was set up around the garage area with the assistance of the Russells Point Police Department and Washington Township Police Department officers.
The defendant eventually complied and climbed down from the roof by utilizing a nearby fence. He spoke with deputies, stating that he had stopped in the area to look at a house he wanted to buy, and then “the next thing I knew, I was breaking into a house” after he said he smoked marijuana with a friend.
A sliding glass door was damaged in the one of the residences.
Deputies placed Drummond under arrest. They noted that while they were collecting witness and victim statements, the defendant attempted to slip off his handcuffs while in the cruiser, and also began to mess with cables and wires for the deputy’s in-car computer.
He was transported to the Logan County Jail.
