A facility and grounds subcommittee directed by the full Ohio Hi-Point board of education soon will begin to hear proposals from potential construction management firms to oversee renovation of the district’s joint-vocational campus.
In a regular school board meeting Wednesday, Superintendent Dr. Rick Smith outlined possible ways to fund about a $26 million renovation of the 40-year-old facility.
The superintendent discussed with the board borrowing a portion of the funds initially to get the project under way. A bond issue, permanent improvement levy or some combination of the two are being actively considered in either May or November 2018.
Employing a construction manager offers the board precise estimates as to the cost of initiatives such as adding a third science lab to accommodate each of the high school’s three science teachers.
“Our students are the priority, and we want to emphasize the programs,” Dr. Smith said. “Right now we have three science teachers and two labs.”
