Billy Leroy Oakley, 83, of Lakeview, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 2, 2018, at his home.
Billy was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Santa Fe, a son of the late Dutch and Luella Buffenbarger Oakley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Holtz; two sons, Tim and Tom; and a sister, Dorothy Taylor.
Billy married Betty Lou Longbrake on Aug. 6, 1953, in Lakeview, and she survives along with three children, Terry (Marcia) Oakley of Hilliard, and Tami (Mike) Arledge and Troy Oakley, both of Lakeview; six grandchildren, Brandy (Jess) Todd, Jessie Cooper, Zack King, Wes (Shelby) Matthews, Tyler Oakley and Emily Oakley; four great-grandchildren, Grace Todd, Aidan Todd, Landen Cooper and Kinzley Matthews; one sister, Charlotte (Danny) Sprague of Dunedin, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Billy was a 1953 graduate of Stokes Local Schools, spending his first two years at the one room school in Santa Fe. He served three years with the Ohio Army National Guard earning the rank of sergeant.
A multi-talented person, Billy was a life-long carpenter. He worked as a guard at the Lima State Hospital for 19 years and for the United States Post Office in Lakeview as a rural carrier for 33 years.
Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to bluegrass music and camping. He was a man of great wit and a jokester. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
