A high-scoring first quarter helped West Liberty-Salem’s boys basketball team down host Indian Lake for a 66-60 win on Saturday in local non-league action.
The Tigers stop a two-game losing skid to move to 7-3 on the season. The Lakers even their record to 6-6.
WL-Salem came out hot, racing to a 20-8 lead to end the first quarter. The Lakers were two points better (16-14) in the second quarter, but still trailed the Tigers by 10 points (34-24) entering halftime.
The Tigers stayed in front by 10 points after three quarters with a 50-40 advantage.
The Lakers outscored the Tigers 20-16 in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers were able to stay ahead to get the win.
Nine different players scored for the Tigers. Holden Nease led the way with 18 points, Jack Eggleston had 17 points, Matthew Loffing scored 11 points and Nick Burden added seven points.
Austin Parker scored a season-high 29 points to power the Lakers. Clay Jacobs tallied 15 points and Ethan Parker chipped in five points.
In junior varsity action, WL-Salem won 52-29 to improve to 9-1 on the season. Tanner LeVan led the Tigers with nine points and Logan Saylor had eight points. For the Lakers, Lukas Schwieterman, Reid Notestine and Logan Evans had five points apiece.
Both teams are back on the court Tuesday. WL-Salem hosts Southeastern in Ohio Heritage Conference action, while Indian Lake travels to Bellefontaine for a local Central Buckeye Conference clash.
