TURNER-STILES |
A Bellefontaine High School student who participated in Wednesday’s active shooter drill was arrested that night for allegedly threatening to shoot up the school.
Jonas M. Turner-Stiles, 18, of 7231 Delaware Drive, Russells Point, was taken into custody at his residence around 10 p.m. and lodged in the Logan County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of aggravated menacing.
Around 7:30 p.m., another student alerted a teacher via a text message of the Turner-Stiles’ alleged threat.
According to the witness, the suspect said, “It would be fun” to shoot up the school and scare students and staff.
He also claimed that he had previously brought a gun to school without getting caught.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department searched for the suspect at several city residences before tracking him down.
When interviewed, he denied making any threats and claimed he was concerned about the advanced notice of the drill as he feared a real shooter would take advantage of the opportunity.
As for saying it would be “fun” to shoot up a school, Turner- Stiles claims he merely would want to be the shooter in such a drill.
