Benjamin Logan’s Sydney Wesson has dominated the links this fall and Wednesday the junior standout put an exclamation point on her season with an individual state berth in Division II.
The Raiders competed in the Division II district tournament at Pipestone Golf Course near Springboro. The team finished sixth with a score of 391.
The top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the Division II state golf meet on Oct. 16 and 17 at the Ohio State University.
Alter won the district title with a 336 and Fenwick was runner-up with a 355 to claim the two state spots.
Wesson finished tied for fourth overall out of 71 golfers with a score of 83. She shot a 43 on the front and a 40 on the back, but was tied with two other golfers for the individual state berth spots.
With her season on the line, Wesson pared the playoff hole. Legacy Christian’s Liz Miller had a birdie on the playoff hole to win, while Summit Country Day’s Riley Simpson had a bogey. That put Wesson in the runner-up spot and punched her ticket to state.
Ben Logan’s girls team has made it to state the past two seasons and won the district championship last fall. However, that was not the case Wednesday as the team settled for a sixth-place finish.
Also playing at the district were Leeah Valentine with a 94, Willow Titus with a 100, Olivia Hahn with a 114 and Taylor Lafferty with a 118.
Indian Lake sophomore Regan Ross also competed at the district meet as an individual. She finished tied for 12th overall with an 87. She carded a 39 on the front and a 48 on the back.
