Tanner Perkins has provided Benjamin Logan’s football team with a consistently strong arm over the past three seasons. He hopes to do the same at the collegiate level after recently signing with Heidelberg University, an NCAA Division III program in Tiffin.
“Competing in college has been a goal of mine ever since I was a little kid,” said Perkins. “I’ve always wanted to have that feeling of knowing you have worked hard enough to be able to compete at the college level.”
A three-year starter for the Raiders at quarterback, Perkins combined for 3,545 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. This past fall, Perkins was limited to seven games and still recorded 815 passing yards and four touchdowns. He was also effective with his feet rushing for 88 yards and six scores. He was also a three-time Central Buckeye Conference second-team selection.
“I feel I bring a lot of passion and dedication to Heidelberg,” said Perkins. “I bring toughness to the table and I am always willing to learn more and more to be the best I can possibly be.”
Perkins looked at several college in Ohio like Bluffton University, Ohio Northern University and Wilmington College. In the end, though, Heidelberg University is where Perkins felt he could best excel at.
“I feel I will be set up for the best success academically and athletically there,” said Perkins. “I plan to pursue a degree in business marketing and contribute to the Heidelberg football program.”
While Perkins was typically in the top tier of quarterbacks in the CBC, he knows he’ll have to work even harder to have that same success with the Student Princes.
“I am going to go into the program with an open mind and am going to work as much as possible to help contribute to my team,” said Perkins. “It will be a more challenging environment, which means dedication is very important.”
