In a planned move, Benjamin Logan schools’ Board of Education rehired its recently-retired principal Monday during a regular meeting.
Longtime high school principal Mark Butler was rehired by the district, following a previous resignation for the purpose of retirement, effective June 30.
The district has estimated a $15,000 annual savings as a result of this arrangement, as first reported by the Examiner in April. Mr. Butler’s 2016-17 full-time salary was $98,992, according to the Ohio Treasurer of State database.
District officials announced their intention to execute a retire/rehire of Mr. Butler in April, and a public hearing on the matter was staged July 10.
Terms of this retire-rehire agreement are effective three years, and school board members and administrators are satisfied to be able to save an estimated $45,000 over three years, they said.
The district has planned another retire/rehire arrangement with Lewis Cunningham, bus driver. A legally-required public hearing on the matter is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 21.
