Proceedings to be broadcast via Facebook Live
Benjamin Logan Board of Education and Indian Lake Board of Education representatives reported that each entity will be meeting for their regularly scheduled sessions Monday, March 16, but the meetings will be closed to the public because of the COVID-19 emergency.
The Benjamin Logan meeting begins at 6 p.m. and the Indian Lake Schools meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be broadcast via Facebook Live so that the public and members of the media may view the proceedings, officials from the school districts report.
Ohio Attorney General David Yost announced during a press conference this weekend that he is of the opinion that during the Coronavirus outbreak, Boards of Education and other governmental bodies may meet without admitting members of the public. If a Board of Education chooses to do this, it must provide another means of public access such as a live video feed of its meeting.
Attorney General Yost suggested that this is a temporary opinion and also clarified that the Open Meetings Act, Revised Code 121.22, continued to require boards to physically meet in person. Boards can not conduct meetings online or by phone, and ill members may not participate in meetings remotely.
