Benjamin Logan Board of Education members moved forward with several purchases during their Monday evening meeting, including Chromebooks for the 2022-23 school year.
A total of 450 Chromebooks will be purchased at a price of $213.75 a piece, for a total of $96,187.50. The Chromebooks are an economical model, with a longer life of seven years.
Members also approved the purchase of cafeteria tables, chairs and trash cans from Friends Office Supply at a cost of $124,684, to be paid out of the cafeteria fund.
Also relating to buildings and grounds, the board approved the lowest responsible proposal for asphalt with Superior Sealcoating in the amount of $141,999.41, to be paid from the district’s permanent improvement fund.
Joseph Waltz from the Logan County Electric Cooperative was in attendance to commend the district on energy savings.
Addie Buckenroth was honored by the board for her recent achievements as a state bowling qualifier.
Officials also reported that the two 78-passenger buses the district purchased from International arrived Monday.
Superintendent John Scheu mentioned NSPRA has created a special day to recognize School Communicators Day, set for May 13. He publicly thanked Sally Stolly for the valuable work she does for Benjamin Logan as a school public relations professional.
In other action, the board:
• approved a motion to reimbursement of electrical costs for bus driver reimbursement based on timer usage for the 2021-22 school year;
• extended a two-year administrative contract to Daniel Lyons, speech/language pathologist;
• accepted the retirement resignation of Ron Perry, bus driver, effective July 31;
• accepted the resignations of Taylor Dear, elementary teacher, and Karen Barns, food service worker, each effective July 31;
• approved a one-year contract for Tawney Saylor, elementary school secretary;
• approved Nicole Terrill to attend summer Professional Development in Florence, Ky., June 13-17 paid through CTE weighted funds;
• approved the eighth-grade trip to Camp Willson May 23-25, and the chaperones for the trip;
• approved the EF Educational Tours nine-day trip abroad to Ireland and England July 19-27, 2023.
• approved the Class of 2022 Graduation List for students who will graduate Friday, May 27;
• approved the listed licensed doctors to conduct bus driver physicals (added Community Health & Wellness Partners); and
• accepted donation of $500 from John Scheu for the purpose of additional fuel costs for the Show Choir to travel to Cedar Point to perform.
The next meeting is 6 p.m. May 16.
