It was an exciting team race as Tecumseh pulled away in the finals to beat Bellefontaine 173.5-154.5. The Arrows led 146.5-144.5 entering the last round of wrestling, but Tecumseh went 6-0 and crowned five champions to win the tournament.
“We were hoping we could pull out the win after placing second last year,” said BHS head coach Aaron LaBatt. “Tecumseh has a nice team and wrestled great in the finals. We had a real solid weekend of wrestling. We’ll get better and keep working on improving.”
Filling out the top tier of teams were Canton South in third with 123.5 points and Urbana in fourth with 121 points. Host Ben Logan finished eighth with 93.5 points and had one champion and four other placers. Riverside was 15th with 55 points and had two placers.
Ben Logan had a solid weekend at its own tournament and finished with one champion and four other placers. Head coach Kyle Seeley felt his team could have earned more hardware, though.
“Overall, I felt that we wrestled fairly well,” said Seeley. “We had some wrestlers leave their potential in the bleachers instead of on the mat this weekend. We have to get over this slump of wrestling to win when we believe we can. We placed five wrestlers on the podium this weekend, but should have placed more.”
