Bellefontaine City Schools hosted its new teacher orientation on Monday, attended by 24 teachers and four additional new staff members at the Distance Learning Center at Bellefontaine High School.
Superintendent Brad Hall welcomed the new staff and emphasized the strong community support that Bellefontaine offers.
He told first-year teachers they signed a $1 million contract if they finish their career at BCS.
Several teachers are new to Bellefontaine, but not new to the classroom. The 24 teachers have 265 years of combined teaching experience.
BHS Associate Principal Cliff Core led a team-building activity.
BCS Treasurer Josh Wasson delivered a presentation on district employment forms and procedures.
The other featured speakers included Director of Special Education Pat Martz, Gifted Coordinator Angie Horvath and District Nurse Katie Buffkin.
A computer orientation was presented by District Technology Coordinators Marc Stakey and Matt Heaston, along with District Technology Administrative Assistant Stacie Cooper.
After lunch, the new staff got onto a Bellefontaine City Schools’ bus for a city tour led by Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler.
Attendees learned about Court Street, the statue of George Bartholomew, and the fountain near the Logan County Courthouse.
Stahler then led the group through the Logan County History Center on east Columbus Avenue.
All BCS teachers returned to the classroom Tuesday for staff meetings and professional development.
The first day of classes for BCS students (grades 1-9) will be Tuesday, Sept. 6.
