Awareness activities planned
A Community Outreach Basketball Game featuring the Logan County Braves and local first responders is planned for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Bellefontaine Middle School, officials reported Thursday evening at the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities meeting.
The proceeds will be used to support an effort to make Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District parks accessible to children of all abilities. Bellefontaine Elementary School’s Dare to Be Aware Club has spearheaded this idea for installing handicap accessible playground equipment at the city parks, which has gained momentum in the community this year, as previously reported in the Examiner.
Admission to the basketball game is by donation. Refreshments will be sold and a 50/50 drawing is planned. The BES club will offer a half-time presentation, and Discovery Center preschoolers will cheer on the teams.
Superintendent Saul Bauer encouraged area residents to support this effort during Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. He noted that the participating agencies include the Bellefontaine Police Department, Bellefontaine Fire Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
“We want to support our Awareness Month theme, ‘Side by Side,’ by participating in this effort to make every park accessible to all children of all abilities,” the superintendent said in a release. “We hope to make this an annual event to support every park in Logan County to be accessible to every child.”
