Two dozen NK Parts Industries Inc. employees and a handful of local officials gathered Thursday to break ground on the company’s 137,500-square-foot expansion of its Auto Technic America Inc. facility at 13434 State Route 287 near East Liberty.

The modest ceremony belies the size of the project and other economic development in the area.
It is one of three multi-million projects under way along the U.S. Route 33 corridor in Logan County.
NKP will spend between $4 million and $6 million on the expansion, adding 31 full-time permanent jobs and nine full-time temporary positions with a total annual payroll of about $2.285 million.
Bruns Construction will oversee the building project, which is expected to be done by January.
NKP has received a 10-year, 60-percent tax abatement on the new construction.
It will save the company around $300,000 to $470,000 in property taxes over the life of the agreement depending on the final project value.
The deal was formalized last week by the Logan County Commissioners who also extended similar abatements to Midwest Express Inc.
NKP has been in Ohio since 1987 with a facility in Sidney. It opened the East Liberty campus 11 years ago to better serve Honda.
More than 600 people are employed by the parts, logistics and research and development company with more than 115 working at the East Liberty location.
Steve Colebaugh, an NKP vice president, said the expansion is part of the company’s continuing efforts to “raise the bar and provide our customers with quality parts and services.”
