A troubled teen was arrested Wednesday for threatening to blow up Ohio Hi-Point Career Center and shoot a teacher before killing himself.
Detectives with the Bellefontaine Police Department and a deputy of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office took Damian V. Newsom, 18, into custody around 11 a.m. at his 224 Highland St., West Mansfield, residence.
He attempted to sneak out the back of the residence, but was confronted by a detective.
The suspect turned back into a rear door of the home and the detective followed. A struggle ensued with the suspect trying to get away.
Another detective and the deputy were let in through the front door and the teen was secured in handcuffs.
He has been lodged in the Logan County Jail for felony aggravated menacing and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Detectives report the teen was recently released from the Ohio Department of Youth Services after serving two years for a sexual assault offense. He also has been a behavior problem at Mac-A-Cheek Learning Center, 1130 W. Sandusky Ave.
Behavioral issues led to a suspension from the career center on Monday and Benjamin Logan High School officials alerted Hi-Point on Wednesday of the threats which were reported by students.
