An Internet giant entered into an agreement with the local wind development company to finish the wind project in southern Hardin County.
Amazon Web Services and EverPower Wind Holdings signed a power purchase agreement in which the wind company will complete construction of the 189 megawatt wind farm to be called Amazon Wind Farm U.S. Central 2.
Amazon Web Services is a division of Amazon.com that operates cloud computing data centers across the United States as part of the nation’s ever-growing internet infrastructure. The Hardin County project, which will be constructed in 2017 and is expected to be operational by the end of the year, will be AWS’s fifth renewable energy project in the U.S. and second in Ohio, including a wind farm in Paulding County.
EverPower expects the wind farm will employ about 100 workers during the 2017 construction phase and an additional eight to 10 during operation. It is expected to generate 530,000 megawatt hours of energy annually, or enough to power 50,000 homes for a year.
