Alice Jean Watkins Hughes of Bellefontaine, left for Glory on Jan. 8, 2017.
She was born in Bellefontaine on June 8, 1929, to the late Marion Victor Watkins and Ruth Wells Watkins.
Alice Jean will be joining her siblings Bill, Burton, Bud, Gwen and Olive, and her cousin, Ruth Harriet, who was like a sister. She was also preceded in death by sons-in-law, Roger Grunden and David Lusby.
She graduated from Bellefontaine High School with the Class of 1947, and enjoyed attending many of her class reunions. Alice retired from DAB after 32 years. She then began her next career of making children of all ages smile when she joined her sister-in-law at Marianna’s Doll Shop along west Columbus Avenue in Bellefontaine. She enjoyed her 10 years there, the people she met and the closeness with Marianna and the girls.
She also volunteered with the Mary Rutan Guild. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School through the years. Alice loved dancing, attending the activities of her grandchildren and playing cards, especially with her Tuesday Night Bunch, who were some of her best friends.
She is survived by her children, Jan (Tim) Smith of Bellefontaine, Judy Lambert of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Jeff Hughes of Marathon Shores, Fla., LeeAnn Lusby of Bellefontaine, Gene (Marty) Hughes of Weeki Wachee, Fla., and David (Kandi) Hughes of Clermont, Fla., sister-in-law, Marianna Watkins, with Cassie, Buddy, Tim and Tom (whom she loved dearly); special niece, Cheryl Toschlog of Richmond, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
