Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities Superintendent Saul Bauer shared an update at the board’s recent meeting about the Dare to Be Aware playground fundraising project.
Fundraising events have raised a total of $23,693.10 thus far to be used to renovate area parks so they are accessible to people of all abilities, following the idea spearheaded by the Dare to Be Aware Club at Bellefontaine Intermediate School.
A committee was formed and met July 11 to review the park vision and present ideas for the renovation of the parks.
Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Superintendent Kris Meyer said he envisions all parks in Logan County having fully accessible playground equipment. The committee agreed that the first renovation will be to Southview Park, since it will be the easiest park to make accessible.
The second project will be replacing Kaleidoscope Park equipment to make it fully accessible. Myers is scheduling a meeting with the company GameTime to determine what cost may be associated with the changes. The committee will be scheduled to meet after GameTime information is gathered.
