Riverside Schools Board of Education members voted in favor of three measures during their Tuesday evening meeting that school officials said should offer good news and financial relief to families in the district next year.
The board approved waiving all academic fees for the upcoming 2018-19 school year; the former $65 high school athletic participation fee; $35 junior high athletic participation fee; and the athletic transportation fee that previously was passed along to families.
“We’re excited to be able to waive these fees for the third year in row; we are fiscally strong and we want to pass along some savings to the families of our students,” Superintendent Scott Mann said.
“For our families who have several children in sports and in school, the fees can be burdensome, and we want to help remove that burden. We’re thrilled to be able to do this again.”
Also related to the district’s strong financial standing, members approved the five-year forecast presented by Treasurer Ronnie Fitchpatrick, which shows all years of the forecast with ending balances in the black.
