HARBER |
Dustin R. Harber, 34, of Kenton, who is currently incarcerated in the Logan County Jail, was charged with assault related to an incident at the jail Tuesday involving he and another inmate.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report several inmates called central control about 5:20 p.m. to report that a fellow inmate in cell block C was bleeding. When corrections officers responded, they found inmate James W. Gilliam Jr., 34, in the upstairs restrooms standing over the sink washing blood off his face and the side of his head.
Gilliam was assisted to the nurse’s station by corrections officers and they learned that he had sustained a laceration to his head. He was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he received stitches and then was returned to the jail about 8 p.m.
When Gilliam returned, he would not inform corrections officers about what had led to his injury. However, several other inmates told officers that they had observed Harber punch Gilliam’s head several times and also kick him.
After being questioned by corrections officers, Harber admitted to assaulting Gilliam and officers observed marks on his knuckles. They also noted there were no marks on Gilliam’s hands or knuckles.
Harber then was placed on disciplinary status and moved to cell block D.
Then about 8:15 p.m., corrections officers responded back to his cell after he hit his call button. They observed that Harber had fashioned a noose with a laundry bag string and had placed it around his neck. Officers were able to remove the noose and Consolidated Care Inc. was contacted. He later was placed in a restraint chair.
Harber was originally incarcerated in the jail on a felony parole violation charge and a criminal trespass charge.
