Catherine E. (Gross) Wells of Quincy, Ohio died on August 9 th at her home after a long battle with cancer. Born on July 28, 1944 in Lima Ohio to Ralph and Doris Gross (preceded in death). She was married to George A. Wells for 55 years.
She was a Loving mother of Fred (Kelly) Wells of Sidney, Ohio, Christina Wells of Calabasas, California, and George Wells JR of Lewisville, Ohio. She was the Grandmother to Jessica (Derek) Stitzel of Sidney, Ohio, Travis Wells of Marysville, Ohio, Lane (Bailey) Wells stationed in the Air Force Tacoma Washington, and Christopher Lovell of Calabasas, California. She was the Great Grandmother Rhilynn, Deamon, Adler Stitzel of Sidney. She was the loving sister of Carol Dray of Niles, Ohio, and Sheryl Kintz of Lynchburg, Virginia. Catherine was also the aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Cathy was a strong and independent woman with a love of animals that spanned a lifetime. As a teenager her father did not want her to have a horse. So Cathy then trained a steer from the family’s lifestock to neck rein the same as a horse. She rode the steer (Bruno) all over the family farm and local area from Cridersville to Lima. As an adult she trained many horses of which, her children and grandchildren learned how to ride.
Cathy had a love for wallpapering, cleaning, and sales in which she developed into different business over her lifetime. Also, Cathy spent many years of as a Rural Postal Carrier for Quincy a community for which she loved and was vested in. Cathy was a 4-H Advisor of Mac-O-Chee Mustangs for 35 plus years. She dedicated those years to teaching her children, grandchildren, and many of the youth of Logan County how to ride horses and to become the leaders of tomorrow.
She was an elected Quincy town council member for 12 plus years and was the driving force in organizing the Quincy Easter Egg Hunt for over twenty years. She spent many tireless hours gaining donations to supply candy, gifts, and prizes and made sure that no child left empty handed. She was the first to start the Quincy Senior Citizen Easter Egg Hunt of which had as many senior citizens participating as it did children.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family. The family request that in lieu of flowers or cards, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society, Children’s Cancer Foundations or Hospice Care in her Name.
