Mother-and-daughter pair Terri Mees and Laura Duff were excited to be able to help offer a contest at the Logan County Fair last week that participants have missed in recent years, and whose unique display items also bring to light fond memories for participants and fairgoers alike.
The open class Crafts, Collectibles, and Antiques show has not taken place since the COVID-19 pandemic, but committee co-chairs Mees and Duff said they were greeted with enthusiastic participation this year.
They also want to help spread the word for those who might want to participate in the 2023 Logan County Fair, to start honing their collections, looking for unique antiques or to showcase their crafting skills for the fair.
“We’ve had a lot of people stopping by this year to check out the entries and expressing interest in what we’re doing here,” Mees said at the display located at the open class building, noting that they were accepting ideas for categories for next year’s contest.
Collections on display for the contest this year spanned the categories of key chains, Logan County Fair memorabilia, Disney character, salt and pepper shakers, seashells, vacation magnets and more.
Duff won the Best of Show collections award for her wide assortment of Logan County Fair ribbons.
Bill Sadler received Reserve Best of Show for his collection of perfume bottles, a number of them unique Avon decanters featuring automobiles.
Craft items this year featured categories such as decorated styrofoam wreath, painted shoes, scrapbook page and Christmas ornament.
Mees received a Best of Show craft award for her wine cork flowers, and her granddaughter, Kyleigh Duff, won reserve craft award for her purple and silver butterflies, shaped from Monster energy drink cans.
Antique categories this year ranged from baby shoes to flat irons, toy tractor, jewelry box and even a mystery item for participants to take their guesses.
