Chickens, sheep and calves and local youths and adults enjoyed a Logan County Fair tradition Thursday evening at the grandstand and a chance to compete for prizes.
This year’s livestock scramble was a favorite of the participants and the crowd, said Skip Jackson, fair board member in charge of the event.
“The scramble was a huge success and a fun time for everyone. Even the fair king and queen participated. The grandstands were full of spectators cheering them on.
“Even though we had rambunctious cows and a few rambunctious sheep, they were healthy animals and those involved applauded the quality.”
Jackson extended his appreciation to Katie Krabill, Melissa Kinney and Scott Jackson for their assistance behind the scenes in making the scramble run smoothly.
Charlie Beagle and his crew set up the ring, brought in the animals and took care of the judging.
The overall response from 133 participants encouraged bringing the event back again next year. Classes for the scramble included:
• Chickens for ages 2-8, with 55 participating, divided into six classes.
• Sheep for ages 9-14, with 58 participating, divided into five classes.
• Calves for ages 15 to adult, with 20 participating, divided by age 15-17 and 18 and up.
Prizes included cash donated by Logan County Agricultural Society and ice cream donated by Logan County Dairy Association.
No animals were harmed during the event, organizers noted.
