Having initiated authorization for a comprehensive study and master plan for the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation Parks District two weeks ago, the Bellefontaine City Council took a step toward funding the $49,500 project.
Entering into contracts requires both authorization for the administration to sign agreements and supplemental spending authority to pay for it.
The contract authorization continues while money to cover the project will be set aside under an ordinance passed on first reading Tuesday.
Most of the expense — $40,000 — will be covered by a recent sale of land behind Fred Carter Park.
Freytag & Associates Inc. out of Sidney will lead the study and collection of community input to develop a master plan for the city’s parks and recreation needs.
In other action, the council adopted a resolution authorizing the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department to accept a $5,000 grant from Logan County Cooperative Electric for equipment used in fire extinguisher training.
Council members also passed a measure opting out of changes to Ohio’s regulations regarding the sale of fireworks. The new regulations open up retail sales options when allowed at a local level.
The next city council meeting is at 7:30 p.m. June 14.
