Ohio Hi-Point school board Wednesday in a regular meeting allocated more than $10,000 toward expanding its academic courses, hired three additional staff and accepted resignations from four others.
Authorized Wednesday were a total of nine $1,200 stipends that will be paid to approved certified instructors of nine new academic courses beginning in the 2016-17 school year.
In a December presentation to the board, Superintendent Dr. Rick Smith proposed an expansion of Hi-Point’s on-campus course offerings to keep pace with growing industry demand.
School officials have not yet said which new academic courses will be offered at Hi-Point. Funds to pay instructors will be paid out of the Carl D. Perkins Grant, which is a federally funded pool of money allocated to post-secondary and career technical centers.
The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act provides about $1.3 billion annually in federal funding to vocational and career technical centers in all 50 states.
